Toyota Adopting A Cautious Approach

For a substantial number of years now, Toyotas Prius has been the primary hybrid automobile in the auto business and continues to remain the champion in popularity and turnover in spite of the multitude of competitive makes quite easily purchasable. The trend in Europe, America and particular Asian countries like Japan and Korea has been gradually gravitating to totally electric makes and this industry has witnessed a massive flood of funding from both the private sector and governments. But Toyota appears to be stalling while other car makers are galloping ahead with the debut of cars like the Chevrolets Volt and Nissans Leaf.

Fresh or Artificial Christmas Wreaths?

Those of us that are concerned about the environment want to make sure that we are buying and producing green products. Consumers are conscientiously doing their best to purchase products that use renewable resources. When it comes to deciding between a fresh Christmas wreath or on an artificial wreath, most people are choosing real evergreen wreaths. You probably know that artificial wreaths are made from plastics and other petroleum based products, and you also know that petroleum is not a renewable resource.

Green Focused London Fashion Week

The whole fashion industry is buzzing right now, as London Fashion Week gears up for its largest show in history. The shows will take place over a 4 day period, with 1 extra day for the men’s collections, and will welcome back some of the top designers around as well as acting as a launch pad for hopeful youngsters coming through the ranks. In total there will be over 150 exhibitors showing at Somerset House in The Strand, from Ada Zanditon & London Spa to Zoe & Morgan, and they will be competing for the attention of the top buying houses and high street fashion scouts.

Designers will be showing their 2010 Spring/Summer ranges, but they are likely to have a more ‘green’ element to their designs this year. With all the buzz surrounding eco friendliness at the moment, the ‘estethica’ part of the show has been pushed to the forefront and has taken a leap forwards in popularity.

 Green Focused London Fashion Week

Estethica has really been running since 2002 at the fashion week, but it has grown this year more than any other, with fifteen new marks showing their goods. The BFC first came up with the thought of having a eco friendly section of the fashion week, to give those environmentally-conscious UK designers a chance to play with the huge boys of fashion, but since its conception the show has won over even the most profit-driven of fashion companies.

Among the items on show will be jewelry, shoes, bags accessories, and of course clothing. But, in another go forward for the fashion week, there will also be beauty products and make-up shows taking place across the 4 days. Whilst some may consider this not relevant to fashion, the organizers argue that anything that influences appearance comes under the fashion umbrella, be this eye liner or pedicure products. If the beauty products section of the show is a huge hit then organisers say it will become be coming back next for sure.

The Basics Of Residential Wind Power

If you live in a region where the prevailing winds are regular and relatively strong, then you can probably install a residential wind turbine to save a great deal on your electrical energy costs. A wind turbine can help you to use less power from your local utility company, especially when used in conjunction with photovoltaic cells. Some people living in areas where conditions are ideal have even managed to go completely off the grid! While that's not possible for most of us, the ability of a wind turbine to turn the kinetic energy of wind into the electrical power you need for your home can save you a substantial amount of money on your energy bills.

Turning Your Home Into A Recycling Mecca

We are constantly being told to recycle as much of our waste as we can. plastic containers and cardboard items can be recycled with relative ease as lots of people have separate bins for this stuff or can drop it off at a recycling centre in town. When it comes to recycling larger household pieces but, there is not so much support or resources. Things like chairs, windows and kitchen units usually find their way to the tip and often get ruined. Right now people are not only watching what they spend more, but also concerning themselves with the state of the planet, so here are a few tips to aid home recycling.

Wood Items. Lots of people are very quick to get rid of their ancient chest of draws or bookshelf without taking some time to consider if they still have some use. Its pretty simple to attach a couple of kitchen cupboard units together and place them on the floor to make a fun coffee table that looks a bit different. The best bit is that the coffee table will double up as storage space as you can just open the lid and pop stuff in. You can also use wood to make lots of small things such as door stops and chopping boards and even wine racks

Turning Your Home Into A Recycling Mecca

Glassware. Contrary to well loved belief, you don’t need to be an expert in glass melting in order to reuse an ancient glass. Glasses can be used to pot house plants, store knick-knacks in, and even make feature walls with if you’ve got the time to make it. If you place a small thought into it first, you need never have to throw another glass away.

Furniture. This is one of the toughest things to recycle and I’m not saying that you will be able to make tableware out of your ancient sofa, but sometimes there is scope to get a few more years out of items you thought were at the end of their life. The garden is a fantastic place to find a home for ancient household items.By removing the cushioning and coating the furniture in some protective varnish, most chairs and tables will last outdoors for years. You might also be able to use ancient carpet to kneel on whilst tending to garden or to line the floor of the shed with.

Using Biofuels As A Green Energy Resource

Biofuels are also a green energy source. It has been around for a very long time and lately, people are beginning to take notice.

Liquid biofuel which is the one used in cars is a natural and renewable domestic fuel that can only be used for diesel engines. This can be made from vegetable oils mostly soy and corn. The nice thing about it is that it contains no petroleum, is nontoxic and biodegradable.

By fueling up with biofuel, you decrease the pollutants in the air because it does not emit anything. Right now, it is the only fuel approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), passed every Heath-Effects Test of the Clean Air Act and meets the requirements of the California Air Resources Board (CARB).

One example of this is biodiesel which is made from alcohol like methanol and a chemical process that separates glycerine and methyl esters (biodiesel) from fats or vegetable oils. Aside from methanol, some countries have also experimented with corn and sugarcane to make their own adaptation of biofuel.

Glycerine is a everyday product and this is used in making toothpaste and soap. Since it is quite new, the process of converting it is quite pricey and right now, this is still much more expensive per gallon compared to petroleum.

But if you look at what you pay for it, the returns are huge because you get to do your share to preserve a cleaner environment, an improvement in air quality and a reduction of cancer-causing agents.

Using Biofuels As A Green Energy Resource

A cheaper and primitive way to make bio-diesel is by collecting cooking oil and then processing it. This may not excellent your car’s engine so be cautious if you make a choice to use it.

If you are skeptic about biodiesels, studies have shown that its performance on the road is just as excellent as petroleum in terms of power to efficiency, hauling and climbing. You can use this in its pure form or blend with petroleum fuel. The most common mix in the market is 20/80 and is referred to as “B20.” This means that 20% is biodiesel and the remainder is 80%. Another version is the E85 which is fuel composed of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline.

The best part about using biodiesel is that you only have to make a few changes in your engine to be able to use it. Aside from making the car run, it also helps clean the engine. If you are concerned that this will void the warranty of your vehicle should there be a problem, don’t worry because it doesn’t. In the US, B20 is the most common one available but there are only a few gas stations that carry it.

When car’s first rolled out in the beginning of the 20th century, Henry Ford plotted to make these vehicles especially the Model T’s run using ethanol. Tests have even shown that these may also run using peanut oil.

This never materialized because huge oil deposits were learned and diesel was inexpensive. It was only when our demand for oil increased in the 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s and in the early part of this year that people started to realize that to reduce our demand for foreign oil that we should try using biodiesels and other forms of alternative energy.

Is it too late? Not yet because there is still time to use biofuels and others as green energy sources.
