In the future, all of our energy will come from renewable sources. With traditional gas and energy costs skyrocketing, it is apparent that we need to find new ways to make energy production which are sustainable. We need to change our thought process about how we use the Earth and begin to convert our old energy grid into something sustainable.

There are some people who have already started thinking this way. New scientific breakthroughs in renewable energy are allowing us to create sustainable energy at lower and lower costs.

Using the right set of plans even homeowners who don’t know anything about construction or electricity can build their own alternative energy sources right in their backyards, such as wind power generators.

DIY wind power generators

Homebuilt wind turbines can make as much power to reduce the average household’s power bill by 60-70%. The right advice can show you how many people make their wind power generators for as little as $200 US.

They can be built with basic tools and parts from a local hardware store. You can estimate the amount of power a generator creates using the following formula:

Power(Watts) = (Wind Speed)^3 * (Blade Diameter)^2 * 0.00478

The speed of the wind makes the most difference because its value is cubed, then the blade diameter because its value is squared. Example calculation using a decent wind speed of 10mph and an 8 ft blade diameter:

W = (10*10*10) * (8*8) * 0.00478 = 305 watts/hour – x 24 hours and you can calculate 7.3 kWh generated per day by a wind power generator.

If you have an average home, you probably use about 12-20 kWh of power every day. Even if you don’t have great wind speed in your area, an initial investment of about $200 to build a wind turbine is small compared to the savings you will get in free electricity for your house. Wind power generators are very good investments, indeed.

Giving The Green Light To Electronic Document Management Software

September 29, 2009 by Gogreen

Going green may begin at home—but there’s no doubt that it continues in the workplace. Recycling bins, bringing your own mug instead of using paper cups, turning off lights, closing doors and lowering blinds are some ways that employees make an effort.
But what about how you store and organize information? Isn’t it time to trade outdated processes and overstuffed filing cabinets for something more sustainable?
Paper Pitfalls
The average office worker in the US uses 10,000 sheets of paper each year—or two pounds of paper a day. (Source: EPA.)
Where does it all go? Placed in files, shuffled between employees, sent to shipping, tossed in the trash. Offices rent storage space, or require bigger offices for all their paper documents. And not only do they take up space, all that paper is a risk for security and fire damage.
Not to mention incredibly inefficient.
A (compact fluorescent) light bulb over your head
Have you through about electronic document management?
An electronic document management software is just that: online and paperless. It’s a business software application designed to digitally store documents into a repository.
Documents can include anything from invoices to emails to contracts to health records—anything you need. As the documents are stored in the system, they are associated with index information referred to as metadata attributes. With metadata, users can quickly query documents using a web browser or other client application and retrieve the documents electronically on the computer screen.
These systems offer an office numerous capabilities, including storing, indexing and retrieving documents. Additional functionality may involve electronic routing of documents for approval, email archiving, records retention management, document scanning, optical character recognition (OCR), online collaboration with vendors and suppliers, security, disaster recovery, and reporting.
It’s a paperless office solution that reduces your carbon footprint and increases efficiency.
Green, Clean, and Fast
Because when you need a document, you need it quickly. Paperless information can be searched and retrieved much faster, without leaving your desk. Filing and retrieval is reduced from minutes to seconds—a huge productivity gain.
Plus, it’s easier to share information. Not just because files are online, but also to collaborate: A paperless system supports collaboration tools like check-in/check-out, document version control, email archiving, and remote access.
Not to mention secure: Digital documents are more easily backed-up, and can be made available quickly in the event of a disaster.
How can this help me?
Just think about all the times you’ve tried to get something accomplished off-line. Processing an invoice for payment? Keeping all necessary records in an archive? And when multiple employees work on a single document, how can you be sure it’s the most current version?
Here are just a few examples where electronic Keyword2% can help you go lean and green:
Electronic Approvals: Electronically route documents for review and approval, apply digital signatures, and create electronic markups. Reviewing documents online reduces demand for paper and ink.
Digital Archiving: Electronically archive paper documents in PDF or Tiff formats. Digitally archiving your documents reduces the need for paper storage facilities, limits exposure to fire/flood damage, and promotes recycling efforts.
Collaboration: Share documents online with co-workers, vendors, and suppliers. By providing electronic access to documents, companies reduce delays, cut costs, and lower the environmental impacts of shipping paper documents.
Processing an invoice is another great example.
An invoice arrives. It needs to be routed up the approval chain for payment. In a paper world, this process is slow, invoices get misplaced, data is manually entered, people forget to approve, and so on. Yet for many companies, a paper-based process is still the norm.
In the digital era, paper-based processes such as invoice approval can be easily automated. This way, an invoice would arrive and be digitized, capturing data that is automatically incorporated into accounting systems. Notifications with electronic copies of the invoices go out to approvers, and simple workflow steps ensure that the necessary approvals are obtained, and accounting receives notification of approval and pays the bill.
The big benefit is time. Time is money.
In addition to financial costs, the environmental impacts cannot be unnoticed. The production process to produce paper stock requires harvesting trees, consumes significant energy leading to increased greenhouse gases, and involves chemicals that we weren’t allowed to touch in chemistry class.
All this goes to show how electronic document management system can help employees work faster, smarter, and greener.

Marketing Plan For Recycling In DE

September 28, 2009 by Gogreen

Marketing Plan for Recycling – Marketing to a New Segment

We are new to the market, but, posses a lot of information in the form of trends and statistics that should help us out early on. We will leverage the information that we have to get a better understanding of what our strong market demographics are, and, which ones could use improvement. With our knowledge and willingness to innovate, we believe that we can educate people, and, ultimately show them the features and benefits of recycling; enough, to make them switch over to regular and frequent recyclers. With the overall percentage of recyclers in Delaware lingering just above 10%, we believe that we have an ample opportunity to enter the market without too many competitors, and, to capitalize by almost immediately generating a large share of voice among recycling companies/agencies.

Market Summary

Existing recycling programs in Delaware capture only about 22% of the waste generated by households and businesses. Delaware residents generate an average of about 2,400 lbs. of municipal waste annually. Clearly, there aren’t enough places to recycle in Delaware, and recycling isn’t as well mandated in Delaware as it is in other states. Delaware can and should keep more recyclables out of landfills. Our only major competitor in the market, the Delaware Solid Waste Authority, has struggled to increase awareness about the need for recycling programs and solid waste reduction. We will offer these opportunities in Delaware while also spreading the word about the importance of recycling and conservation.

Target Markets:
- Inner city inhabitants
- All people not fully educated in recycling practices
- More men and older Delawareans

Market Demographics

According to a study conducted by Fred W. Morgan and Margaret V. Hughes, these are the types of individuals who are most likely to recycle.

- Women over men
- People who maximize utilities (motivated by cost)
- People who benefit personally from saving money
- People who benefit economically by receiving money for recycling
- People who benefit socially by caring about the earth and the greater cause
- People who do not feel inconvenienced
- People who live in close proximity to a recycling center
- People who perceive that recycling is effective “worth the work”
- People who are educated on recycling processes

Geographic:
- There is no set geographic area. We will target the entire state of Delaware. The inner city and rural areas tend to be less educated in recycling, and thus, we will focus marketing efforts in those regions.
- Middle class suburban individuals tend to be motivated by costs and utilities, but, unmotivated by inconvenience. Making them aware of new and frequent recycling centers will increase their overall awareness of recycling and its ease, thus increasing the act.

Demographic:
- In a recent curbside recycling study, it was found that women are about 12% more likely to recycle than men.
- Younger individuals are more prone to recycling than are older people.
- Men and women tend to recycle different things in higher percentages, men are big on steel, cardboard, and plastic, while women are more likely to recycle aluminum, paper, and glass.

Behavioral:
- Over 90% of people who don’t recycle claim that they would if there was a convenient curbside recycling program in their area -based on social behaviors.
- About 75% of people think that state government should mandate curbside recycling programs – based on social behaviors.
- 86% of people believe that recycling is at least important in conserving natural resources – based on environmental behaviors.
- People are much more likely to recycle if they are compensated for it monetarily – based on economic behaviors.

Market Needs

Convenient Options – People are much more likely to recycle if the is a recycling center close by, or, if curbside pickup is offered. We need to institute more centers and recycling options in this market.

Economic Benefits – People are much more likely to recycle if they benefit from it monetarily. We need to instate a “paid” or “rewarded to recycle” program in this market.

Education on Recycling – many individuals in this market are still not educated enough on recycling to where they feel that it is truly benefiting the environment. We must institute education in this market.

Market Trends

The emphasis in the past has been to setup a few recycling centers across the state, provide bins and cans, and hope that people utilize them to recycle. Very little education has been provided to the state of Delaware on the topic of recycling. Furthermore, very little marketing has been done to promote recycling locations and centers local to people’s homes/place of business. Finally, not much has been accomplished state wide in the area of curbside pickup. We will market our company, educate our consumers on recycling, and provide them with options that are convenient and rewarding based on their demographic behaviors.

Market Growth

Currently, women make up the largest percentage of recyclers nationwide. We will take the opportunity to market not only toward them, but, specifically towards men as well, to create growth in the demographic market. Younger individuals are more likely to be educated on recycling practices, and thus, tend to recycle more than older people. We will target older citizens, showing them the importance of recycling and educating them on how it will affect their kids, and their kid’s kids – they benefit morally and socially by recycling. Finally, it has been found that inner city dwelling individuals feel at a high level (90%) that recycling is important, and, would be much more likely to recycle if they were rewarded for it – this is where we can instate a “rewarded to recycle” program. With the proper marketing to these groups, we should expand the recycling population significantly.

SWOT Analysis

Strengths:
- Creative new ideas to promote recycling
- A lot of room for market growth in Delaware
- Opportunity to almost immediately obtain a large share-of-voice in the industry

Weaknesses:
- Delaware residents are among the worst in the nation where recycling is concerned
- A lack of in-depth industry experience

Opportunities:
- Expand the market by targeting more men, urban residents, and older citizens
- Stretch the market by raising education in areas where recycling is not the norm
- Create new and innovative solutions, unique to Delaware’s residents

Threats:
- Competition from an already established market competitor – Delaware Solid Waste Authority
- A lack of interest and response to our educational promotions – lost momentum and dollars
- Setting the standard, only to be reduced in share of voice by a large firm entering the market

Myths Spread about Hybrid Vehicles

September 27, 2009 by Colin Jones

If you are thinking about a hybrid car, you may be hearing quite a bit of “talk”. Some people think the hybrid car is the best thing on the market. Some people say it’ll just pass. Other people say they think they can save a lot of money, but you’re not sure it’s really worth it. What’s the truth, and how do you separate myth from fact with all of the stuff that is being thrown at you? Below, you can read and understand the common hybrid car myths.

Hybrid cars are the same as electric cars: This is not true because hybrid cars are fuel-powered most of the time. However they have what are called ‘battery assists’. The assist is powered by a nickel-metal hydride battery pack that is rechargeable.

You are guaranteed to save money with a hybrid car: If you are doing city motoring, you may save gas and you may not. The same goes for highway driving. There are just many different factors. It has been said that if everyone bought hybrid cars, the gas consumption would drop by only 10%. That’s not a very big difference.

A hybrid vehicle’s battery can run out: A hybrid car battery should not run flat when you are actually driving it. The engine of a hybrid car does not idle when stopped (at a red light for instance). What does it do then? Well, it recharges its battery. So there’s no need to worry about a hybrid car stopping for that reason.

The hybrid vehicle’s rechargeable battery only lasts for two years: A hybrid car definitely would not be worth buying if this was the case. A hybrid car’s rechargeable batteries normally come with an 8-year warranty.

If I run out of fuel, I can keep driving on the hybrid car battery: Bear in mind that, a hybrid’s battery is an assist. That means that hybrid cars still run on fuel. After you run out of gas, the battery may keep the car running for a short while. However, the car will cease running very soon.

Hybrid cars will soon put conventional car dealers out of business: This probably won’t take place anytime soon. The reason for the delay has to do with the how much hybrids cost. Most people just can’t afford one. Furthermore, people just aren’t sure whether they will actually save money on a hybrid car. Therefore, they are slow to join the rush of people who want to buy a hybrid vehicle.

Hybrid cars will only save you about $88 a year: I did hear something on the news about this one day, but it may not be true. If there’s something you really want though, and there’s a lot of smoke surrounding it, you simply have to start digging and do some of your own research. There are many different models of hybrid car, and many different manufacturers make them. This means that there may be many more variables involved than the ones discussed here. A hybrid car may help you, and it may not, but the final decision is all yours.

Therefore, just don’t worry too much about what other people tell you. They probably have only heard other people passing on rumours. Do your own due diligence and think it out for yourself. Try the Internet to get your information. The manufacturer’s advertising is also rather useful, if you stick to reading the facts and gloss over the gloss. Check that whatever the literature claims is also in the guarantee.

Solar Energy Jobs Increasing and Available

September 26, 2009 by Jessica H. Skymore
Filed under Alternative Power

The recent spike in the available solar energy jobs is really exciting when you consider how this will lower fuel consumption and relieve oil dependence. The 25% spike in the solar job market indicates that we are finally making the right strides to get to where we need to go in order to save our planet.

Alternative energy jobs are expected to continue their drastic increase over the next several years. Many state and local governmental offices are exploring the need for alternative energy sources for the cities and towns that they govern. Solar energy is at the top of the list. Coastal towns are leaning toward wind energy, but either one will open up more jobs and cleaner air.

As alternative energy jobs go, solar energy jobs are one of the most readily available. It is speculated that the job market will continue to grow for several more years. Without the appropriate research and the access to qualified construction, solar energy will be delayed in its implementation all over the United States. Joining the wind turbine industry, solar panels are expected to become one of the most common home improvements within the next 15 years.

The solar energy jobs that will come from the progressive research in solar power will include a very wide range of jobs and education levels. We will need superior construction and maintenance as well as prime negotiators to work with the power companies. We will need continued educational campaigns to help keep the solar industry thriving and the clean energy projects moving forward.

We are moving forward at a rapid speed in filling the solar energy jobs and giving a huge boost to the eco friendly energy movement. While many European countries have surpassed our current level of eco success, we are catching up quickly. The science behind the solar energy and the construction needs for continued use and development is already here. Alternative energy jobs are proving our progress in clean energy.

Solar energy can provide homes and business with enough power to decrease fossil fuels gas by 25%. Solar energy may one day lead us to new cars that don’t need fuel. There is no limit to where the development of alternative energy will take us. Being part of the generation that offers the best and most practical solutions would be an amazing experience.

While there are numerous internships and apprenticeships available in the alternative energy job industry, it is best if you review the educational requirements and meet them in order to join the rather exciting movement toward efficiency.

Those who see a transfer as a job bonus and are able and willing to lose some college credit in exchange for employment before graduation are good candidates for the solar power jobs industry. Finishing your education while starting in the field can mean a huge leap forward into your new career.

Buy Eco Products For Everything In Your Life

September 26, 2009 by Gogreen

Many people are becoming more interested in the environment and are seeking to buy eco products, but do not know where to find them. Environmentally friendly products are those that use sustainable resources and help with the many environmental concerns in today’s world. Eco products often times use recycled material and thus reduce waste in using them or making them.

You can buy eco products online. There are eco products that can be used for everyday life such as eco kitchen appliances, eco shavers and even eco office supplies. Eco products are also available that can benefit your health as there are allergy relief products, humidifiers, air purifiers and dust mite bedding as a few examples.

It is always important to fully investigate each website before you make any purchases. Eco products are specialized goods and many people may pretend to be selling eco products when they are not. With so many environmentally aware stores opening and designers using eco products, it is much easier than it once was to find eco products, but you still need to be careful.

Some excellent online eco product stores include 3R Living, which stocks organic products and high quality eco friendly gifts. Anna Sova carries luxury organic products, Fresh Unlimited produces organic gift baskets and gifts and GreenFeet carries eco friendly products for day to day use.

It is possible to find a replacement eco product for whatever you need or desire. While eco products are still considered a luxury good they will become more and more mainstream as more individuals switch to using eco products. So start by helping the environment today and purchase an eco product at your favorite eco store.

Here are some other Green Living Tips:

Reduce. We’ve all heard the spiel about reduce, reuse, recycle; however, most of us focus on recycling and completely ignore the reducing. Try to use products that don’t end up in landfills like cloth diapers instead of disposables or regular towels instead of paper ones. Another great idea is to buy concentrated products because they come in smaller packages.

Reuse. Many people have gotten in the habit of sending their recyclables away in the bins, but there’s more supply than demand in the recycling market. That’s why it’s also important to reuse items if you can. Before you throw something in the recycling bin, consider whether you could reuse it for something else.

Recycle. We should all have a recycle bin in our homes, but you can do stuff to recycle on your own. Instead of using potting soil in your garden, set up a compost pile and make your own rich soils. You can also use products like shredded plastic bags to mulch your garden. If you get creative, there’s lots of recycling you can do on your own.

Buy Green For The Many Benefits

September 25, 2009 by Gogreen

Slowly but surly more people are realizing how important it is to buy green. Some have realized how important green products are for their health and the health of their families. Others have realized that there truly is a limited amount of resources that are available on planet earth and that we need to be wise stewards of what we have.

Green shopping involves purchasing foods grown without growth hormones and without pesticides. Prepared foods should not have artificial colors or preservatives added. If you have difficulty in finding these products consider shopping at green stores or green stores found online.

You can often find small produce sections located in many supermarkets that are labeled as organic produce. Sometimes finding such produce is difficult in the smaller cities or towns. When they are found, they are often small. One option is to shop at the online green stores. You can find produce that has been canned or preserved using green practices.

When you buy green, you must expand beyond basic groceries.

Buying green can even affect the products that we use to build our homes. One such product that has gained in popularity is bamboo flooring. Bamboo grows quite rapidly and plants can be re-grown in one growing season. The flooring is high endurance and is much more earth friendly than use of oak that can take generations to grow.

Even you cleansers can be made green. Some of the things we buy in spray bottles is toxic to human beings or to pets. Most can be replaced with green mixtures, some that you mix yourself using hydrogen peroxide, borax, vinegar or baking soda. These cleansers give practically no smell, but are as effective as many of the spray bottles. You may choose to buy these cleansers at variety stores, grocery stores or online at green stores.

Some very well known producers and retailers of eco products include GreenFeet which produces environmentally friendly products that can be used in your everyday life. If you want an eco gift or organic gift basket then Fresh Unlimited can meet your needs and Anna Sova is an online store that carries luxury organic products. 3 R Living is another company that provides eco products of the highest quality and if you are interesting in modern eco design then visit Re:modern.

It is possible to find a replacement eco product for whatever you need or desire. While eco products are still considered a luxury good they will become more and more mainstream as more individuals switch to using eco products. So start by helping the environment today and purchase an eco product at your favorite eco store.

What Do Alternative Energy Job Add to the Future?

September 25, 2009 by Jessica H. Skymore
Filed under Alternative Power

Will alternative energy jobs save us from ourselves? The state of the planet is in serious condition and we need to take some serious action in order to change the way things are. Water pollution, toxic air, and even indoor air pollutants are taking over the world in a steady pattern. Ground level ozone lingers on our door steps and we are now finally turning to renewable energy jobs to reverse the problem.

Even with our alternative energy job plan that has been on the table for many years, the cost to the planet when it comes to transportation and manufacturing plants is unacceptably high. In order to start developing hope of a healthy planet, the alternative energy job market must become a priority. Without that, there’s not a lot that is fixing the problems.

Wind energy jobs are already starting to crop up along the coast lines of the United States. With the perpetual winds across the oceans, there is no reason why we can harness that wind and transform it into power.

If we could drop our needs for perpetual energy, or replace our energy sources, the gains would be more than merely lower energy bills but a lower ecological price. We need this type of action in order to start moving from our current energy practices into clean energy practices.

From every direction that we look at the problem there really only seems to be one solution. If we want to start developing a better planet to live on, we have to catch up to the damage the we have done already. By progressing in this stable and efficient manner, the market for renewable energy jobs will increase, simultaneously giving the economic issues another shove.

There has to be a people friendly awareness as these jobs progress. Alternative energy jobs have to focus on combining the needs of the planet with the needs of the people. We rely on our energy for a reason and we can’t expect a nation or a world to start operating on different principles overnight. The impact of wiping out pollutant energy without balancing the needs of the people would be great.

Without the research and the continuous ingenious developments of energy conservation jobs and alternative energy jobs our children may end up wearing gas masks by the time they are thirty just to go outside. The beaches could be closed because the sun’s rays have just gotten too strong with the reduction in the ozone layer. Clean energy jobs are the bottom line if we want to stop the destruction and welcome the protection.

Anyone that might be interested in transitioning into new green collar jobs should start looking at the requirements now. Over the next several years the predictions for employment are quite impressive. This is the field where experts predict the most continuous growth. Starting your job preparations today may very well open up new opportunities tomorrow.

Wind Power Your Home- What Are The Advantages?

September 24, 2009 by Dave Patrick

Harnessing the power of the wind has been used in rural America for a long time. Wind power was a main factor in the expansion of the USA. The many bladed windmill a top a tower providing the power to draw up water was once a very common sight in rural areas.

Water pumps powered by the wind were also a major factor in the expansion of the railroads. They were used to pump up water from wells to power the steam locomotives.

The wind turbine at the top of a tower made of wood or steel was for decades a familiar sight in the rural US. When fitted up with banks of batteries and generators these windmills made the electricity required for the remoter farms.

Now with the relentless increase in energy costs and much more awareness by people of the damage to the environment caused by burning fossil fuel, more folk in urban, as well as rural areas, are considering the use of wind power as a method of reducing their expenses.

The use of wind power in the United States has risen by an estimated twenty-six percent every year for the last 5 years.

Wind power your home- 9 good reasons to do so:

1 cheaper energy than average retail price of electricity

2 Doesn’t consume fossil fuel

3 No waste products or carbon dioxide emission problems

4 No greenhouse gasses polluting the atmosphere

5 Clean energy environmental problems virtually nil

6 We cannot exhaust the power as there will always be wind

7 No global warming issues

8 Costs don’t fluctuate with the price of fuel

9 Growth of around 30% per year makes wind power the fastest growing energy source on the planet

One last point, before you rush off to your local hardware store. Before you start making your own wind power generator you will need to consider such issues as visual impact, noise and other environmental issues. Play safe and speak to your local planning authority first!

Utilizing Solar Energy for Your Home

September 22, 2009 by Derick Johnson

As time goes on, more people are realizing the benefits of solar energy as the impact of global warming is becoming more apparent. Everyone wants to reduce their carbon footprint these days, and for good reason, and companies are capitalizing on it. One particular branch of the alternative energy field that is doing quite well is that of solar energy. We will discuss the various advantages and disadvantages of solar power in the following article.

There are several advantages and disadvantages to solar energy but generally the pros outweigh the cons. First lets start with the pros: solar panels are easy to install, produce no carbon emissions, and are all around great for the environment. And the cost is always going down as the technology improves. Just a few years ago it cost over $4 per watt but that has decreased recently to under $1. Now for the cons: solar power can be expensive and inefficient when compared to fossil fuels which is why it is not being utilized as much as it could be.

With everyone getting in on the green movement (even the big corporations like Walmart and Google), it is of little doubt that solar energy is a good thing. Not only is it great for the environment it also harnesses the power of the sun which is an endless supply of power. So when fossil fuels start to run out in a few years, solar will still be going strong.

Even when it is overcast, new technology allows certain solar panels to capture enough energy for the day. It works by storing extra energy on sunny days when the power isn’t being consumed as much and then when it is rainy or overcast it uses that stored energy.

There are a few other options other than solar panels for the collection of solar radiation but they are few and far between. One such source is the PV system which is actually connected straight to the power grid. When all the energy produced by the panels isn’t being used it is sent to other homes on the network. It can be a good way to make some extra money off your solar panels.

So for those that are looking to reduce their carbon footprint, hopefully you have absorbed the information here and understand the importance of solar power. Even though it can be an expensive investment, it is usually worth it. And it is a great way to enjoy years of renewable clean energy.

How A Home Solar Energy System Can Save You Money

September 22, 2009 by Bob Hobson

You may be asking yourself how a home solar energy system can benefit you and your home. Hopefully when you have finished reading you will have the answers and be wondering why you did not consider it earlier. Having a solar energy system fitted will not only be one step forward in preserving the environment, but it will also be able to bring your energy bills down therefore saving you money.

With the amount of fossil fuels remaining we will run out of the energy we use now and will have to look for alternative methods in order to create electricity. The way energy is currently produced is mainly from fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are created believe it or not originally from the suns power.

The way the sun becomes the fossil fuels we use is because of the way they keep plants alive by photosynthesis, then when the plant does many many years later the plant itself along with others that have died will become fossil fuels.

You may be asking yourself now why it is that solar power can save you so much money if it is such a big part in the making of fossil fuels, and the reason is this. The sun will give you energy directly from its heat or light, where as with fossil fuels people have to be paid to source them and dig them up as well as to be able to convert them to the energy we take for granted the energy companies have to pay their workers too. If only we could bypass this? Well we can, this is what solar power is all about.

Solar thermal energy is when you have solar panels fitted to your house and when the suns heat and light hit he panel. The energy from the sun then warms whatever you wish it to, this could be water which will mean that you do not have to worry about the cost when it comes to taking a bath.

Photovoltaic uses the suns power which is taken by use of solar or photovoltaic panels and then is converted into electricity which can then be used to power your television, cooker or another electricity source.

A passive solar energy system will use the suns direct light to heat a water system, but you will find that as there is no need for a pump to circulate the water you will not need to use any other energy source.

The way an active solar system works to produce energy is that it uses the suns energy rather than the light and it will need an extra source of power so that the panels can move so that they can get the most energy that the sun has to offer. This will mean that you benefit from the sun no matter the position.

No matter the system you decide to choose you will definitely see the benefits when you receive your next energy bill. You have hopefully seen the benefits in using the suns energy so that the savings will end up in your pocket not in that of someone else.

Fresh or Artificial Christmas Wreaths?

September 21, 2009 by Maggie Krafts

Those of us that are concerned about the environment want to make sure that we are buying and producing green products. Consumers are conscientiously doing their best to purchase products that use renewable resources. When it comes to deciding between a fresh Christmas wreath or on an artificial wreath, most people are choosing real evergreen wreaths. You probably know that artificial wreaths are made from plastics and other petroleum based products, and you also know that petroleum is not a renewable resource.

The artificial wreaths most likely will end up in a landfill and they are not biodegradable. In addition, most artificial wreaths are made overseas and so even more petroleum is used to ship the artificial wreaths. There are many more green reasons to buy a fresh evergreen wreath. They can be recycled by removing the fir from the wreath rings for a potpourri.

There are also many free recycling programs where the greens will be chipped and used for mulch, another plus for the environment. Our boxes and bags are made from recycled materials as well. Since 1976, we have shipped noble fir wreaths worldwide and we have studied environmental issues. We are constantly learning better ways to protect Mother Earth and thus updating our methods of production.

Fresh evergreen wreathes are a renewable resource. We do not cut down any trees to make our Christmas wreaths. In the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, we harvest the tips of the branches, and this actually promotes the growth of the trees. Trimming the branches of the noble fir trees is actually beneficial to the trees and thus great for the environment. The aromatic noble fir trees from Washington state are the longest lasting evergreens. These majestic trees are natures way of fighting against global warming.

Trees take carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and release oxygen. The process of producing plastic, artificial wreaths burns fossil fuels while adding carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. Its a great system.

Knowing that fresh Christmas wreaths are recyclable, renewable and less of a contributor to global warming, those who are concerned about Mother Earth are choosing a fresh Christmas wreath.

Solar Energy For Your Home – Conservation For Future Generations

September 21, 2009 by Bob Hobson

Join the green trend and purchase solar energy for your home. There are so many books instructing you on how to install the system. One of the best series I have read for DIY installation is the Power your home for Dummies. Online there are free instructions offered on how to install your solar energy system.

I know you are asking yourself what happens on days when there is no sun and it is cloudy. Well you will still have energy but less than normal. The sun still emits its rays even on over cast days. Not only will this be an improvement to your home you will reduce the consumption of electricity as well as carbon footprint.

A complete installation of solar energy to you home will then cost you nothing. The money you used to spend on power can now be saved towards something needed. And by having a grid connection; local electric services actually pay you for power used from your home.

After you have done some reading and research you can then decide whether you can do this yourself or maybe you need a contractor to do the job. As well as installing solar energy to the inside of your home you can also install outside. You can use solar energy to heat your pool, as well as replace the geyser. Solar energy will provide both heat and cold which is a bonus in Africa.

Solar power can operate independently and supply your home with a continuous energy supply. The only time you would have a problem is when there is a storm or in some countries where natural disasters occur, you would then end up with a weak and limited supply of energy.

No pollution or hazardous materials are generated from solar energy. It does not require any gas or liquid substances to make it functional, it only needs sunlight to become functional and sunlight is free and guarantees you power. The solar energy cells will also guarantee you when all the other supplied have exhausted their supplies. These solar panels have been used with great success in the Ant-arctic (the sun doesn’t shine there) where run ways have been lit for safe landings. So this tells us that solar energy cells can be used literally anywhere in the world.

Good reasons why you should install solar energy into your home – costs are minimal, there is no harm done to the environment and the system is always reliable as well as practically no maintenance is required. It is flexible in terms of size and meets with the challenges and uncertainty we all face in the future.

Last but not least by installing solar energy in your home you are not only saving money but In the long term you are also preventing harmful toxins which are released into the atmosphere daily from the use fuel. You can go online and research prices and what type of solar energy would suit your needs in the long term.

Today’s trends seem to slant towards super sizing everything. This channel converting something minute into a bigger version. Burgers and sodas can in a jiffy take place brought clothed in bigger sizes. Even food packs such the same as cereal or else cookies even brightly put on view cipher of 10% or else 20% printed packaging. This trend is primarily due to the belief with the aim of better is better and to get a hold your money’s worth it is permanently top to good buy the biggest article. But execute you forever get a hold your money’s worth as soon as you depart on behalf of the immense things? Execute you permanently benefit from purchasing the better versions of things?

Not clothed in all suitcases, single artifact with the aim of cannot permanently call for with the aim of better is better is clothed in Air conditioner units. From time to time a immense air conditioning as Electronic product entity is not better than a minute single. So how execute you know whether a minute air conditioner is better than a immense single?

As soon as allowing for the size of an air conditioning entity, head consider the size someplace you strength of character place it. A generously proportioned air conditioning entity isn’t applied to good buy if the space you diagram to install it clothed in is minute. A immense entity strength of character occupy too much seat with the aim of can take place used on behalf of better things. A minute air conditioner strength of character vocation impeccably clothed in a minor seat. Regular sized bedrooms and minute offices strength of character take place better equipped with a minute air conditioning entity on a bigger single.

You strength of character besides take part in to be included dazed how many make somewhere your home electricity bill the space by the side of single clock. Accommodation keep an eye on to happen to warmer as soon as it has a privileged residence. If your space does take part in lots of make somewhere your home clothed in it by the side of some time ago in that case you might aspiration to consider purchasing a generously proportioned air conditioner. But if near strength of character solitary take place single or else two, you strength of character precisely need to acquisition a minute air conditioner. You hunger to take place comfortable, so you might not hunger to progress to a space too cold.

An extra bonus to buy a minute air conditioner are a smaller amount HIGH PRICE as soon as compared to the generously proportioned ones. It is smarter to good buy a minute air conditioner with the aim of strength of character take place often used the same as conflicting to a generously proportioned single with the aim of far exceeds your needs and you rarely expenditure it.

Different than saving cash with a minute ac, your exciting law strength of character besides depart down. Minute air conditioners applied far a smaller amount electrical than the bigger models.

Maintaining a minute entity is a breeze. It is easier to clean and reinstall. Unlike generously proportioned models, you strength of character not need very many make somewhere your home to remove it throughout seasonal changes or else cleaning. For the reason that it is easier to move, you won’t take part in one tribulation changing its location if you decide to rearrange your space. It can take place transferred from place to place the same as straightforwardly the same as different furniture.

Or else you good buy an air conditioner on behalf of by hand take place definite to keep these things clothed in mind. This director is to help you clothed in your decision of air conditioner size. Don’t take place fooled by the view the better something is, the better it is on behalf of you. For the reason that this appreciation is not permanently applicable.

What Are Biomass Pellets?

September 19, 2009 by Gogreen

Fuel pellets are a compressed form of the original raw material. Collectively the raw material is called biomass. Biomass can take many forms, for example one form of biomass is . By compressing the material into pellets creates a uniform highly compressed commodity. This commodity can be used for several purposes, for example they can be burnt to produce energy in the form of heat or used for animal bedding.

The reasons for turning the raw material into pellets is quite simple. In its raw form the biomass has a low density and is very expensive to transport. pellets can drastically reduce the foot space of the raw material. This means more of the raw material can be placed on the back of a lorry or on a boat. This means reduced transport costs, however there is another advantage. Pellets are seen as a environmentally friendly fuel and kind to the environment because of several reasons and one main reason is it takes less lorries and boats to transport pellets from one location to another. This means less carbon dioxide is produced, which helps to reduce the rate of global warming.

Secondly in its raw state most wood is awkward to handle and use. For example wood log stoves are very common, however the user has to manually load the stove every few hours. By turning wood into pellets the user can load a hopper and the stove will feed its self. Depending on the size of the pellets hopper the user may have to fill the hopper every day up to once a year. Therefore tuning the raw material into pellets gives a similar level of convenience users today expect and receive from gas and oil appliances.

Pellets are produced under vast amounts of pressure and heat. The raw material enters a machine called a pellet press and under pressure and heat is turned into a pellet. The raw material is effectively melted and reformed. The pellets come out of the machine very hot, and cannot be used until they have cooled. Once the pellet has cooled it resembles a coloring crayon, they are normally about 1 inch in length and should have a surface shine. As pellets are a lot denser they weigh a lot more. Due to the weight and uniform size they flow like water. This ability to flow means they are ideal for hoppers and feed systems for pellet burners. The uncompressed raw material would simply bridge in a feed hopper and cause lots of problems.

Pellets also have advantages when burning. Due to the high density of the pellet, a more complete burn is achieved. This means more heat, efficiency and fewer particulates and emissions. Keeping emissions and particulates as low as possible benefits air quality and the environment.

Do It Yourself Solar Power Panels Advice

September 15, 2009 by Don Swain

The Watt Power output of a Solar module is the number of watts output when it is illuminated under standard conditions. Watt Peak (Wp) is the direct current watts output of a solar module as measured under an Industry standardized Light Test.

Solar prices have decreased from $27 per Watt Peak (Wp) and heading lower. Many project a $1 per Wp competitive price model in the near future. When $1 Wp is achieved, grid parity will allow Photovoltaics (PV) to compete with the prevailing price of electricity.

Essentially, there are 2 types of solar panels. The more expensive kind using crystalline silicon and the new proprietary thin-film technology. CdTe (Cadmium Telluride) is the popular favorite thin-film technology favorite.

CdTe (Cadmium Telluride) permits a low cost production process. Automated high put though production processes have been employed successfully eliminating the need for expensive clean rooms or other specialty equipment.

Thin Firm CdTe (Cadmium Telluride) semiconductor material also converts low and diffuse light to electricity more efficiently than conventional cells under cloudy weather and dawn and dusk conditions. As a result, Thin Firm CdTe (Cadmium Telluride) modules will generally produce more electricity under real world conditions than conventional solar modules with similar power ratings.

Some sixty companies have announced to start thin film production by 2010. Thin-film solar cells consist of layers of active materials about 10 m thick compared with 200- to 300-m layers for crystalline-silicon cells. The technology allows for more flexible and robust shapes and is more cost effective.

What really matters is the total kilowatt-hours a panel produces. Then calculate the average solar wattage produced per dollar spent. Chances are, when you are reach $0.15/kWh or better, you are competitive with your electric company.

There are cabling costs battery banks and inverters to consider. Calculating solar output, use an average of 5 hrs per day of sun. Eg. 4 x 80w panels produce 320 watts x 5 hrs should produce 1600 watts or 1.6 Kw per day. A 1000w system would produce about 4 Kwh per day. Most families use between 3-10 Kwh per day. Harness your very own experience with a do it yourself solar panel kit and discover this energy saving technology.

Make your own do it yourself solar power system. Home solar systems can form a vital part of any home emergency survival kit. Solar power kits may help in life saving emergencies, natural catastrophe, or any number of instances where you could be stranded from main power but you have an electrical need
