How to go green and save the planet

Here are just a few ways to start your new regime in going green, but this is just a few simple ways there is certainly many more and the aim of this blog is to eventually show you how to go greenand stay green forever.

Try to stop buying and reading newspapers and magazines.

Stopping newspaper and magazine production “in it’s present form, 95 percent have no recycled content,” would have major impact on a green world. Reckon about it like this, to produce the estimated 12 billion magazines a year they have to go through many harmful processes, from deforestation for the paper to energy for the production to gas for transportation, plus the chemicals that go into paper treatments and ink. Lets be honest why buy a newspaper or magazine when the majority of these can be found online and be read through laptops, ipads, iphone, kindle or your desktop computer.

Save Power Usage,Unplug Everything.

When you turn off your TV or computer, unplug it at the mains, this should be the same with all electrical appliances, it is a fact that just because you turn something off it doesn’t mean it’s not using electric and running up your electric bill, so basically if your not using it, pull out the plug save energy and go green. Change your lighting to fluorescent or LED light bulbs.  The coiled compact type are available in most stores now and they may look weird but they produce a comfortable light, they certainly last a lot longer and are four to six times more energy efficient than normal bulbs.

Try An Energy Audit

How Do We Go Green ?

In your quest to go green take a look at this website HOME ENERGY SAVER and input your info to find out how you can save energy in your home and make your carbon footprint smaller. Home Energy Saverrecommends energy-saving upgrades that are appropriate to the home and make sense for the home’s climate and local energy prices.

Try A Waste Audit

No websites with this project just monitor your waste over a few weeks breaking it down into categories like landfill waste, organic compost, recyclable plastic, reusable material, etc. Then plot a “material recovery” effort to cut down the amount of waste that goes into the landfill. This way you will certainly realize how much waste you generate and how much of it does not really have to harm the environment. Waste auditing will also certainly open your eyes to your going greenresponsibilities.

Going Green With Your Diet

Go Greenwith what you eat. Make a concerted effort to cook your own meals with fresh ingredients and stop using the pre-packaged meals. Try to consume less meat as the production of meat needs large amounts of water, grain, land plus other resources like hormones and antibiotics, also polluting the soil, air and water. Try to avoid takeaways at all cost, as polystyrene, plastic or even paper containers are coated in   nonrenewable petroleum derivatives ,  and the majority of them won’t biodegrade in my or my kids lifetimes. if you need to eat out , go to restaurants or find a takeaway where they use  biodegradable, sustainable packaging or at a last resort take your own containers.

Solar Energy

Go green, go solar. The truth is solar energy is a massive subject that I will just touch on in this page but I will be digging in to this subject in more detail soon. The largest problem with solar energy at the moment is cost, but as solar technology improves and rebate programs become more generous, more people are beginning to use solar energy. In truth though as I write this article many families probably would not be able to afford a fully functioning solar generating system for the home, but until costs come down it is certainly possible to buy smaller solar arrangements like maybe a solar water heater which many families could easily budget for while cutting your electric bill and saving the same amount of carbon emissions as two cars. Or on an even smaller scale maybe a solar charger. With cell phones,I pads, lap tops to name a few, they all need charging so why not buy a solar charger and use the free power from the sun to power up all them gadgets while helping the environment.
